Edelman Global Advisory is seeking a highly qualified and talented individual, with relevant post graduate qualifications and ideally previous experience in one of the EU institutions, to join our public affairs team in Brussels for a six-month paid internship.
Job Responsibilities
The precise nature of activities will depend on the priorities and client work during the time of the placement, to be agreed upon. However, the responsibilities and tasks are likely to include the following:
Monitoring EU developments and media and being able to identify and articulate the impact of legislation for clients.- Contributing to research and analysis of various policy issues, drafting briefings, reports, updates and other materials for meetings, events or other clients/stakeholders/media engagement activities.
- Supporting with other communications, public affairs and government relations activities, as needed.
- Liaising with European institutions and other organisations.
- Attending institutional events (EP committee meetings, Commission conferences...) and reporting back.
- Supporting the team in all client work – from input into strategic advice to direct contact with relevant stakeholders.
Policy and media research will be a key part of your daily work.
Qualifications
A graduate in law, economics, European studies, social sciences, communications or a similar discipline, with an excellent academic track record.- Possess very good knowledge of the EU institutions with strong interest in current affairs and a good feel for the political landscape of Europe and beyond. In addition you are interested in and have a good understanding of how international business functions. Experience or a demonstrable interest in consumer policy, food and agriculture, environment, climate change and sustainability, energy, health, digital data & tech is desirable.
- Excellent spoken and written English (native or near-native level), together with fluency in at least one other EU language.
- Dynamic, quick-thinking, a good eye for detail and strong analytical and written skills. You can apply your critical thinking to academic or legal policy research as well as to news or political reporting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – a positive approach with a self-learning attitude.
- Demonstrate great organisational and project management skills, allowing you to work under pressure and on multiple assignments. You have an ability to work autonomously and to be proactive.
- Experience in working with the media, social media and/or a good understanding of the media and platforms’ landscape would be an asset.
Please note that we are unable to consider internships shorter than six months, or internships that are part of a university degree programme. You must also have existing permission or a right to work in Belgium.
